Climbing at Smith Rock, Easter Weekend 2008

The weather was looking promising for Saturday, so Greg, Jodie, Trisha and I decided to head for Smith Rock for an awesome day of climbing. We all met at Greg's place after work on Friday and we were on the road by 6:30pm after a quick stop on the way for fuel and a bite to eat we were off. We arrived at the grasslands about 10pm, set up camp under the full moon, and got a campfire going to keep warm before heading off to bed about and hour later. Saturday morning we woke up to freezing temperatures around 20 degrees. Our tents were covered with ice crystals from the moisture in our breath freezing on contact to the fabric of the tent. After getting up we promptly boiled water for breakfast and started a morning campfire to keep from completely freezing wile we ate and packed up. We made our way to the rock around 9:30am and things were already beginning to warm up nicely.

Trisha wouldn't let that rock get the best of her. For being her first time climbing outdoors, Trisha climbed like a pro. Showing the rock who was boss!

Thanks to Greg for driving, leading the climbs for us.

Here I am making my assault on the rock.

It wasn't long and the crowds of climbers woke up and and thawed out. Soon there wasn't an open spot to climb.

Greg casually belaying (no worries he is using his Grigri). Look at that crowd of climbers in the background, that seemed to come out of nowhere.

I was then my turn for lead practice. I was not nearly as confident with my climbing skiz while leading.

We all had a great day climbing at Smith. The weather was perfect, other than being a little cold Friday night. All that time we have spent at the Circuit has really paid off. At least I know it has for me. I was climbing better than I had anticipated. I'm already looking forward to our next trip. Good times!!!
Until next time have fun, and enjoy!!!
